Five Before

Privacy Policy

Five Before ("the app", "we") helps you put prayer before your phone: it locks the apps you choose at the five daily prayer times until you complete a prayer in the app. This policy explains what data the app handles and how. The short version: your prayers are between you and Allah — we collect as little as possible, and your most sensitive data never leaves your device.

1. Data that stays on your device

Location. Used once (and when you refresh it) to calculate prayer times for your city, entirely on your device. Your location is never uploaded, stored on our servers, or shared with anyone.

The apps you choose to block. App blocking uses Apple's Screen Time technology (Family Controls). Apple's design means we technically cannot see which apps you selected — the selection is an opaque token processed by iOS itself. It never leaves your device.

Emergency unlocks, preferences, streak caches. Stored locally on your device.

2. Data stored in your account

When you first open the app we create an anonymous account — no email, password, or phone number required. If you later choose "Sign in with Apple", your account is linked to your Apple ID (we receive the name/email Apple shares, which you can hide using Apple's private relay).

Your account may store: the name you enter, age range, gender, your onboarding answers (goals, struggles), your prayer journal (which prayer, when, guided dhikr or own prayer, how you were feeling, the verse/dua shown), streaks, and your companion's progress. This data is stored with our hosting provider Supabase (encrypted in transit and at rest) solely to sync your journal and let you keep your progress across devices. We never sell it, never share it, and never use it for advertising.

3. Purchases

Subscriptions are processed by Apple. We never see your payment details. We use RevenueCat to validate subscriptions; it receives an anonymous user identifier and your purchase history for this app only.

4. Analytics & attribution

We use AppsFlyer to understand which marketing brought people to the app (e.g. install and subscription events). With your permission via Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt, this includes your device advertising identifier (IDFA). If you tap "Ask App Not to Track", we don't access the IDFA. We also log anonymous in-app events (e.g. "onboarding step viewed", "prayer completed") to improve the app — never the content of your prayers or feelings.

5. Notifications

Prayer-time notifications are scheduled locally on your device. We do not run a push-notification server.

6. What we never collect

  • Your location (leaves the device) — never
  • Which apps you block — never (Apple prevents even us from seeing it)
  • Contacts, photos, messages, browsing history — never
  • Anything for sale to third parties — never

7. Deleting your data

Profile tab → Delete Account permanently deletes your account and all server-side data (profile, prayer journal, streaks) immediately. Deleting the app removes all on-device data and all Screen Time restrictions.

8. Children

Five Before is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.

9. Your rights

Depending on where you live (e.g. GDPR in the EU), you have the right to access, correct, export, or erase your data. Deletion is built into the app; for anything else, email us.

10. Changes

If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the effective date above.
